Bolg 24: Last Presentation Reflection

  1. Positive Statement
    •  What are you most proud of in your block presentation and/or your senior project? Why?
      • I would say I am proud of my slides of information, and being able to talk for 30 minutes about my information. Also having the whole class participated in my activity. Over all being able to talk about my topic for so long.
  2. Questions to Consider
    •   What assessment would you give yourself on your block presentation?  Use the component contract to defend that assessment.
      • I would give myself an P due to the fact that I talked for the time I had too and not cutting any information out.
    •  What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project? Use the component contract to defend that assessment.
      • I would give myself an AP, because I did not turn some of my things on time.
  3. What worked for you in your senior project?
    •  The best thing that worked for me was the fact that I had my cousins to help me understand how senior project works. Also having my family members be in my research part, made me get closer to them and really understand why they came to the US.
  4. (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your senior project?
    •  One thing that I would change is going out more and talk to experts that could help me more understand my topic.
  5.  Finding Value
    • How has the senior project been helpful to you in your future endeavors?   Be specific and use examples.
      • Senior project helped me understand the fact that we should not judge a book by its cover, because sometimes that book could have an interesting story. It also helped me try new things, because I would not have talked to as many people as I did if I did not have this project.

Bolg 22: Independent Component 2

  1. "I, Stephanie Lopez, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours and 52 minutes of work.”
  2.  Citations:
    1. Acevedo, Marina.(2016, March 30). Personal Interview.
    2. Lopez, Jose Angel.(2016, April 3). Personal Interview.
    3. Miguel Angel Benavides. (2016, April 5) Personal Interview.
  3. Independent Component Hours
  4. During the completion of my independent component I talked over the phone with my aunt in Mexico, Marina Acevedo, we talked about her process of getting her working visa. We also talked about her "American Dream" in why she want to come to the United States and start her own company. She eventually would like to become an residence of the United States, and have her company go over seas. I also talked to my Dad, Jose Angel Lopez, and with him I talked about his story on why he came to the United States and how he go his residency. He explained that he got his residency from amnesty, which is basically the government in a way forgave him because he had been in the United States for some time and had been working. He also explained that since my mom got married with him she could apply for her residency from him. I also talked to my uncle, and he we talked about his story of coming to the United States at the age of 17, he was not able to communicate with anyone because he did not understand English, he only knew Spanish. He was telling me that it was hard for him to not see his family because they were in Mexico. He eventually got a family friend to help him out and go a job at his company, and my uncle has been working since he came to the US. At the moment he an important person at the new company he works at. He said that he never regrets coming to the United States at such a young age. But he does not want to apply for his residency because he is afraid of losing everything he has and get deported. I also watched movies that showed the struggle of coming into the united states and trying to create a better life for them.
  5. Defend your work and explain the component's significance and how it demonstrates 30 hours of work.   Provide evidence (photos, transcript, art work, videos, etc) of the 30 hours of work.
  6.  How did the component help you answer your EQ? Please include specific examples to illustrate how it helped.
    1. It helped me with my third answer which is understanding the story, background, and culture. Every person has a different story and understanding them and welcoming them, makes people less scared of being out in the free. It also shows me that every person has a different struggle and we cant judge a book by its cover.

Blog 23: Exit Interview Prep

  1.  What is your essential question, and what are your answers?  What is your best answer and why?
    • EQ: How can an Immigration Lawyer obtain the best outcome for her client?
      • I think my best answer to my EQ would have to be my first answer which is good and truthful communication among the client and the lawyer.
  2. What process did you take to arrive at this answer?
    • All the people that I talked to and went through the process of getting their citizenship or residency told me that the communication among the client and the lawyer is the key on having the process go smoothly.
  3. What problems did you face?  How did you resolve them?
    • The biggest problem I had was not finding much research for my topic, most of the time I looked up information I would end up reading things about Trump and what he thinks about immgrstion. I also had a problem finding a mentor because all the lawyers that I contacted never contacted me back. Making the project harder because I had to do more research and base everything on the research I did.
  4. What are the two most significant sources you used to answer your essential question and why?
    • Interviews and just talking to people that have gone through the process of getting their citizenship or residency.
